Customer brief
A major European recycling industry association partnered with us to deliver several studies on market developments in the recycling industry, from collection, sorting and recycling to end-use applications for flexible films and PET/HDPE/PP rigids.
Challenge
How to increase transparency in the recycling industry while supporting its long-term development, factoring in different development scenarios under the announced EU legislative framework.
Outcome
We engaged with several stakeholders and market players at the EU and country level to gather the most robust data available and develop a qualitative and quantitative view of the state of play in Europe. Our reports included an overview of the waste management and recycling value chain covering collection, sorting and recycling stages examining the main trends. We also covered technology enablers for the industry including developments in sorting and chemical recycling.
Based on the European recycling capacity we mapped, and factoring in proposed EU recycling targets such as those included in the draft Packaging and Packing Waste Regulation (PPWR), a scenario analysis was developed to shed light on additional capacity investments that would be necessary to achieve the desired outcome.
