US corn harvest at 14% completed with soybeans at 13%

HOUSTON (ICIS)–US farmers have completed 14% of the corn harvest with soybeans now at 13% finished, according to the latest US Department of Agriculture (USDA) weekly crop progress report.

The weekly update showed that this corn harvest pace of 14% is above both the 2023 level of 13% and the five-year average of 11%.

With 85% of its corn acreage now completed, Texas does remain the leading state, followed by North Carolina at 64%.

Currently 92% of corn is dented, which trails the 94% rate from last year but is slightly ahead of the five-year average of 91%.

There is 61% of the crop rated mature. This pace lags the 65% level from 2023 but is higher than the five-year average of 55%.

For corn conditions, there continues to be 4% rated very poor, 8% poor and 23% as fair. There is now 50% as good with 15% listed as excellent.

Soybeans dropping leaves has reached 65%. This current rate is behind the 68% achieved last season but is above the five-year average of 57%.

Harvesting of the soybean crop is at 13%, which is ahead of the 10% mark from 2023 as well as the five-year average of 8%.

Louisiana continues to be the leading state for harvesting with 63% now completed, with Mississippi next with 57% of their crop finished.

For soybean conditions, there were no changes in the update with it remaining as 3% very poor, 8% poor, 25% fair, 52% good and 12% rated as excellent.

In other harvesting updates, there is 14% of the cotton crop completed with sorghum at 29% and spring wheat nearly finished at 96%.
