SINGAPORE (ICIS)–Solvay and Shinkong Synthetic Fibers Corp have agreed to form a joint venture in Taiwan to develop, produce and market electronic-grade hydrogen peroxide, to serve the booming semiconductor industry.

The joint venture called Shinsol Advanced Chemical will have an initial production capacity of 30,000 tonnes/year, “which can easily be increased at a later stage, in line with market demand”, Solvay said on Wednesday.

The facility will be built close to the Southern Taiwan Science Park and is due to begin operations in the first quarter of 2023, the Belgian chemical producer said in a statement.

Investment details were not disclosed.

Solvay and Taiwanese chemicals maker Shinkong is targeting to close the deal, which is pending regulatory approvals, in the second half of 2021.
