HOUSTON (ICIS)–Verde AgriTech announced that its second production plant has been commissioned at the Cerrado Verde project in Brazil and is now ramping up production up to 1.2m tonnes per year of Verde’s multinutrient potassium product branded as K Forte.

Currently Verde operates Plant 1 with a capacity of 600,000 tonnes per year and with Plant 2’s additional capacity after ramping up, the company’s overall production capacity will be 2m tonnes/year.

At this time Plant 2 is already undergoing expansion efforts to eventually  achieve 2.4m tonnes/year of capacity during Q3 2022.

The company has also previously outlined plans for a third plant at the site which could add additional future tons.

Currently Brazil ranks second in the world for potash consumption but is first in terms of imports as the country relies heavily on inbound shipments for its potash needs.

“Four years ago almost to the day, we were commissioning Verde’s Plant 1, which has since then ran practically continuously in order to meet the growing demand for Verde’s products,” said Cristiano Veloso, Verde AgriTech CEO.

“It is therefore timely to rev-up our Plant 2 at a moment when Brazilian potash demands peak and our products have established a track record of delivering optimal agricultural results because the combined total capacity of Plants 1 and 2 will establish Verde as Brazil’s largest potash producer.”
