HOUSTON (ICIS)–NOVA Chemicals has moved the planned startup of its new polyethylene (PE) plant to the first half of 2023.

Before, NOVA had expected to start up the new plant in the fourth quarter of 2022.

The plant will produce 1bn lb/year (454,000 tonne/year) of linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) using the company’s Advanced SCLAIRTECH technology (AST2).

It will be at NOVA’s new Rokeby site, next to its Corunna site, in St Clair township, Ontario province in Canada.

The PE plant will receive ethylene from the Corunna cracker, which NOVA is expanding. The company has completed construction at two heaters, and it finished the tie-ins to the rest of the facility during the site’s turnaround, NOVA said.

The expansion project will increase the cracker’s capacity by more than 50%.

Construction is more than 95% complete for both projects, NOVA said.
