SINGAPORE (ICIS)–Indian producer Haldia Petrochemicals Ltd (HPL) will be using technologies from US firm Lummus Technology for its new propylene (C3), cumene and phenol plants in the West Bengal state.
The Indian petrochemical producer will license Lummus’ olefins conversion technology (OCT), and the Lummus/Versalis cumene and phenol technologies, the US firm said on 1 November.
Financial details were not disclosed.
HPL announced on 13 October a plan to build a plant that will produce 300,000 tonnes/year of phenol and 185,000 tonnes/year of acetone – which should be the largest of its kind in India.
The Indian rupee (Rs) 30bn ($360m) project to be completed by the first quarter of 2026 will turn HPL into India’s first integrated player in the phenolics chain.
Included in the project is an on-purpose propylene plant that will have a capacity of 117,000 tonnes/year. Propylene is one of the raw materials for phenol production.
Upon commissioning of the new plants, HPL’s chemicals business portfolio will grow by Rs50bn.
