PODCAST: CEE gas companies fear EU market fragmentation following German neutrality charge

LONDON (ICIS)–Germany’s decision to impose a neutrality charge to help it recover €9bn in spending to secure gas for storage between June-October 2022 may cause further concern to the CEE gas markets in 2024, particularly as it emerges that Italy is considering introducing a similar levy. The German charge, which is adjusted every six months, has already contributed to an ease in eastern gas exports, however with the potential for an Italian charge there are increased fears over potential fragmentation of the EU single gas market.
