UK economy picked up slightly in August after zero growth in two previous months

LONDON (ICIS)–The UK’s economy picked up slightly in August following two months of zero growth in June and July, official data showed on Friday.

August GDP grew by 0.2%, driven by higher output in services (0.1%), production (0.5%) and construction (0.4%).

Real GDP also grew by 0.2% in the three months to August compared with the three months to May, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said.

Second-quarter GDP grew by 0.5% in the UK, while growth in Q1 was 0.7%.
