PET bottle chips are mainly used by the beverage industry.LONDON (ICIS)–Turkey’s Koksan is due to start up its new polyethylene terephthalate (PET) resin plant in Gaziantep, Turkey, in April 2013, a company source said on Thursday.

“Commissioning will start in January or February and the final start up will be at the beginning or mid April,” the source said.

Half the volume from the 216,000 tonne/year unit will be for captive use in the production of PET preforms, according to the company.

Around 25-30% of the PET made will be sold to the local market and the rest will be exported to the Middle East, CIS and possibly Europe, the source added.

The unit was originally due up in the second half of 2012.

A second identical line that would bring total capacity to 432,000 tonnes/year, is planned for 2015.

The new capacity is located next to Koksan‘s existing PET pre-forming and bottling facilities in Gaziantep.
