BUDAPEST (ICIS)–Important regulatory challenges threaten the European petrochemical sector this year and into 2017, the head of a trade group said late on Saturday.
Dorothee Arns, executive director, Petrochemicals Europe, at Cefic, highlighted the Industrial Emissions Directive and Emissions Trading System as potentially having a heavy impact on the European petrochemicals sector.
Arns also highlighted the importance of improving public perceptions of the chemicals industry. She added that the industry has had a good year in 2016 as the lower oil price improved the region’s competitive position.
Arns was speaking on the sidelines of the 50th annual European Petrochemical Association (EPCA). The annual meeting runs from 1-4 October in Budapest, Hungary.
